Mortal Shell 2 Tips: Don't die from weapons

Struggling with Mortal Shell 2's sticky weapon tracking? Change these settings to make combat more responsive and prevent accidental deaths.

Mortal Shell 2 Tips: Stop Dying to Your Own Weapons

Have you ever felt like your own gun or sword came out to get you in Mortal Shell 2? You're not alone. The game's default weapon tracking can make your attacks stick to enemies like a magnet, or worse, to explosive barrels, resulting in funny and frustrating deaths. But don't worry—a small tweak to your settings can turn things around.

First, let's talk about the culprit: Target Steering. By default, this setting is set to 'Default', which makes your melee attacks prioritize whatever enemy you're aiming at. Sounds good, right? But it also causes your swings to be pulled toward environmental hazards like those annoying explosive barrels. On August 21, Reddit user xkukazu50 posted a clip showing their character.Getting accidentally incinerated by a stray swing. To prevent this, go to Settings > Game and change Target Steering to 'Light' or 'Off'. This gives you better control over your swings, so you can hit what you want without getting tangled up in trouble.

Next up is Enable Free Aim. By default, this is set to 'No', which makes your gun's reticle automatically snap to the nearest enemy, so if you try to aim somewhere else, your shots can go haywire. To aim freely, switch it to 'Yes', and you can also manually lock on by pressing the right trigger. This way, you won't accidentally shoot a barrel and blow yourself up.

But there's more! Two other settings can improve your quality of life. Turning on Auto Gold Pickup means you don't have to press the interact button with your thumb every time you grab loot. And changing Camera Style from 'Immersive' to 'Action' pulls the camera back for a wider view of the battlefield. You'll see enemies approaching and dodge their blows. Both sides.

These changes won't make you invincible, but they'll definitely make combat feel less chaotic and more responsive. You'll still have to master the game's brutal bosses, but at least your weapons won't betray you.
