God of War TV Show Casts Dave Bautista as New Kratos

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Drax the Destroyer traded his knives for a Leviathan Axe? Well, wonder no more, because the God of War TV show has found its new Kratos, and it's none other than Dave Bautista.

Yes, you read that right. After Ryan Hurst, the original actor cast in the role, tore his biceps during filming and had to bow out, Amazon and Sony wasted no time securing a replacement. According to Variety, Bautista will now take on the iconic god-killer role across the planned two seasons. And honestly? We can totally see it.

Now, this is disappointing for Hurst, who recently showed off a crazy physique for the part. But Bautista is a solid choice. The man is a former WWE superstar, and his entire gimmick was being a giant monster who overpowered his opponents and dominated with pure strength. Even in a roster full of intimidating guys, he stood out. That's the kind of presence Kratos needs.

But Bautista isn't just a big guy with a scary look. He's proven he can act. Remember Guardians of the Galaxy? He played Drax the Destroyer, a fan-favorite brawler with a soft heart and surprisingly great comedic timing. That role launched a successful Hollywood career and showed he has range beyond just being flexible.

Of course, he's gotten leaner over the years, but don't worry. He's expected to bulk up quickly for Kratos. The man is famous for his dedication to preparing for roles, and he stays in shape. So even though this might not be the God of War role he famously lobbied for, Kratos could be a perfect match.

It'll be a while before the show hits our screens, but there's plenty to look forward to in the God of War universe. The next game, God of War Laufey, launches on February 18, 2027 for PS5, followed by remakes of the original trilogy and another Kratos-led adventure. So what do you think of Bautista as Kratos? Will you be tuning in?
