Have you ever booted up a massive open-world RPG and felt the systems piling up? Where Winds Meet throws twelve mechanics at you in the first hour, but don't worry. This guide breaks down what actually matters on day one.
Here's the good news. This game is purely cosmetic in its shop. Nothing in the store changes combat, so time, not your wallet, determines how far you go. There's no rush, and there's no wrong way to spend money. Here's how to spend your first week wisely.
Before you start, know this: the global version gives you one character per account, with no quick re-rolls. So choose your gender and starting difficulty deliberately, because you'll be living with them.
Your first weapon choice sets the tone. Both starting weapons are solid and stay strong into the endgame. The Nameless Sword is a versatile blade with a clean defensive stance that makes it the best teacher for combat. The Panacea Fan lets you self-heal mid-fight, which matters more than it sounds (more on that later).
Once you're comfortable with parrying and dodging, switch to something flashier. Bellstrike Umbra is currently the top PvE build, simple and high damage. Hellfire Twinblades and the Rope Dart's Bamboo Cut Wind are glass-cannon arena picks. The Stratagem Sword and Nameless Spear are the PvP burst meta. But fully invest in one primary weapon before touching a second one; spreading materials makes everything underperform.
Combat here doesn't reward stat-checking. It rewards reading your enemy. Most fights are decided by parries, dodges, and stance. So instead of mashing attacks, build the habit of watching for the finishing animation and responding. A clean parry opens a punish window worth more than any direct damage. That's why I recommend the Nameless Sword. Its forgiving timing lets you learn the rhythm before walking a flashier path.
Now let's talk healing. There are no health potions you can spam. Out in the world, health only fully restores at teleports and boundary stones. So you can't brute-force fights by healing through them. This is exactly why the Panacea Fan is so valuable. It enables self-healing in combat and keeps you alive between rocks, making it truly useful in co-op. Knowing how fan healing works means fewer corpses flying around.
The fastest free power boost isn't gear, it's Oddities. As you explore, you can discover and collect animals, insects, plants, and nests, then submit them to NPCs for permanent stat boosts. These don't expire or stack, so grab everything you pass by. Players who collect oddities along the way end up meaningfully stronger than those who ignore them, at no cost.
Your power growth is gated by mental energy, and stamina is consumed by content. The cap is around 300 and it regenerates slowly, so you can't rush through in a day. Plan around it. For farming below level 40, don't cap your mental energy and get the best value by running the campaign. Above level 40, target boss fortresses and outposts that actually drop the set gear you want.
Free Echo Jade is in active redemption codes, and they rotate often, so claim them from day one. Redeem them through the in-game menu. Open Settings (the gear icon) and look for the Other or Misc tab to redeem codes. Rewards arrive in your mailbox. Codes expire fast, so always check the dates in the list before trusting them.
Where Winds Meet runs on a wall of currencies, and several key ones have weekly caps. If you don't use or earn them before the reset, that value disappears. Treat weekly activities as a checklist and clear the limited sources first. A few minutes of planning each week is worth hours of unfocused grinding.
To wrap up the early game: create your character deliberately, start with the Nameless Sword or Panacea Fan, learn parry rhythm, use all active codes, collect every Oddity, and pick one primary weapon path and pour materials into it. Follow the main story. It controls the systems and gives you clean progression. Clear currencies with weekly caps and once you pass level 40, run boss fortresses for set gear. Decide on a meta target (Bellstrike Umbra for PvE) and read a build guide.
That's the entire early game in one pass. When you're ready to optimize, check the PvE and PvP rankings on the EOG.GG Tier List, look up stat thresholds in the Build Planner, and check shells and relays on the Gear Tuning page. Welcome to the Jianghu!
