Where Winds Meet Weapons Guide: All Types & How to Unlock

Have you ever looked at the weapon selection screen in Where Winds Meet and wondered whether an umbrella can actually be a deadly weapon? Spoiler: it can. With a huge list of weapons, each with their own unique martial arts and talents, choosing two loadouts can feel overwhelming. But don't worry—this guide breaks down everything you need to know about weapons, from their traits to how to unlock new traits.

Weapons in Where Winds Meet aren't just about stats. Each one belongs to one of four types based on how it plays in combat. You'll also see an icon next to each weapon showing a recommended development path. These paths are just suggestions to simplify your build, but you can ignore them. Clicking the icon takes you to a path guide with challenges to help you follow that build.

Every weapon has basic light and heavy attacks, often with charged variants. But the real fun comes from special moves. Each weapon has a martial arts skill mapped to the left of the action wheel (Q on keyboard, X/□ on gamepad). It consumes stamina and has a cooldown. The top slot (` on keyboard, Y/Δ on gamepad) is a unique Spec. It's a core skill and also consumes stamina. The bottom slot (TAB on keyboard, A/✖ on gamepad) is a dual weapon skill that swaps your equipped weapon. It has a cooldown but no stamina cost.

Upgrading a weapon unlocks bonuses that boost the weapon's attack or your character's stats. And don't forget basic martial arts like Jump Strike and Deflection. These are universal, but each weapon has its own unique animations.

So how do you actually get new weapons and martial arts? You can't just pick them up. Most martial arts are learned through Skill Theft. This requires Dragon Keys, which you can get by clearing outposts in the open world. With a key in hand, go to the development menu, select an equipped martial art, then highlight the weapon you want and select it to obtain it. Skill Theft will appear as an option. Select it and you'll see the dungeon location on the map.

Head to that dungeon, use a Dragon Key to unlock it, and make your way to the final target. Stand at the marked spot and observe. You'll see circles closing in around the weapon they're using. If you see a yellow circle instead of a gray one, press the capture button. If you succeed enough, you'll learn the martial art and equip the weapon.

So which weapon will you choose? Whether you love the elegance of a sword or the absurd charm of an umbrella, there's a weapon for every style.
