1. Stage 2 Opening: Best early traits, key low-cost carries, and item crafting logic for the first 3 PvE rounds (win-streak vs loss-streak items)
In Set 18 "Natural Force," level 9 compositions focus on losing early to build economy, then crushing late with high quality. In Stage 2, you don't need to force a win streak, but you also want to avoid bleeding out.
Best early traits: Prioritize pairing 2 Bruisers or 2 Vanguards with 2 Oracles or 2 Mages. For example, Taric, Vi, and Diana make 2 Vanguards, then add Morgana and Leona to make 2 Oracles. This gives you a solid front line and decent backline damage. If you prefer a magic transition, use Brand, Annie, and Veigar for 3 Mages, and Maokai and Niko in the front line for the forest trait. It's also good for stabilizing.
Key low-cost carries: 1-cost Maokai, 2-cost Niko, 2-cost Vi, and 2-cost Diana are excellent in the early front line. They can tank and deal damage. For backline damage, I recommend 2-cost Kog'Maw (secondary carry for Vanguard/Oracle comps) or 3-cost Brand (Elementalist). It transitions smoothly into the mid game. If you hit 3-costs like Brand or Veigar early, you can use them as temporary main carries.
Item crafting logic for the first 3 PvE rounds:
- Win-streak items: If you have many 2-star units and can win streak, prioritize frontline defensive items like Warmog's Armor and Thornmail to maintain the streak. To deal damage, hold attack speed or AP components like Recurve Bow or Needlessly Large Rod, and craft them later once you know your main carry.
- Loss-streak items: If your early game is weak, you'll intentionally lose streak. In the late game, prioritize economy or key components. For example, if aiming for AP, choose Spatula (for Natural Force items) or Tear of the Goddess; if aiming for AD, choose Recurve Bow and B.F. Sword. Don't force non-core items like Steel Solari Rocket just to win a round unless you're desperate. I ate it to save HP.
2. Stage 3 Leveling and Stabilizing: Should you level to 6 at 3-2? When to roll down to lock HP? How to transition smoothly into the mid game?

Should you level to 6 at 3-2?If your economy is healthy (at least 40 gold) and your transition comp is fine, leveling to 6 at 3-2 is standard. This helps you stabilize in Stage 3. If your economy is poor or you're on a loss streak, you can delay to 3-5, but make sure you're level 6 before 4-1.
When to roll down to lock HP: After leveling to 6 at 3-2, if your HP is below 70 and your board is weak, consider a small roll of 20-30 gold to find 2-star units like Vi or Brand and stop the bleeding. If your HP is healthy (80+), keep saving and use the Nature Spirit mechanic (buy souls with XP or gold each round) to accelerate your economy, but don't roll too much. The goal is to reach level 7 at 4-1.
Smooth transition to the mid game: Recommended Stage 3 transitions are 'Vanguard Oracle' or 'Elementalist Mage'.
- Vanguard Oracle: Taric, Vi, Diana, Morgana, Leona, Kog'Maw — strong frontline and consistent damage.
- Elementalist Mage: Brand, Annie, Veigar, Maokai, Niko — fast AoE clear.
- If you hit a 4-cost like Sejuani (Nature Guardian) in the mid game, replace your low-cost frontline and later add Azir (5-cost Nature Guardian) or Kai'Sa (4-cost) as your core.
3. 4-1/4-2 Transition Timing: When to level to 7/8 and sell your carry for a full board swap? Substitute units if you can't find key 4/5-cost cards

4-1/4-2 transition timing
: If you have 50 or more gold at 4-1, set your level to 7 and start rolling at cost 4. At 4-2 or 4-5, decide based on HP whether to level up to 8. If your HP is healthy (70 or above), save and level to 8 at 4-5, then roll heavily to swap your board. If your HP is below 50, you need to roll at 4-1 to stabilize your HP. Otherwise, you may end up at 8th place.Selling carries to swap your entire board: When you reach key 4-costs (e.g., Sejuani, Annie, Kai'Sa) or 5-costs (e.g., Azir, Ashe, Caitlyn), sell your temporary carriers. For example, sell Vi and Diana to buy Sejuani and Azir. Sell Brand and Veigar for Annie and Kai'Sa. Keep trait synergies in mind, such as keeping Taric for Vanguard or Leona for Oracle.
Substitutes when you can't find core cards:
- If you can't find Sejuani, use Taric or Vi as your frontline.
- If you can't find Azir, try using Brand or Veigar to deal magic damage.
- If you can't find Ashe, use Kog'Maw or Nidalee for the Hunter trait.
- If you can't find Caitlyn, use Xayah or Aphelios instead.
Remember that the strength of a level 9 comp comes from the high quality of your level 8+ population. However, don't force it if your core cards aren't showing up. Stabilize with substitute cards, then roll when your economy is stronger.
4. Economy Management: When Ahead, Go to Level 9 and Chase 3-Star 4-Costs; When Behind, Compete for a Top 4 Finish—Economic Thresholds

When ahead: Go to level 9 and chase 3-star 4-costs: If you've win-streaked through stage 4, have 80+ HP, and are in a good economic state (50+ gold), your goal is to quickly level to 9. Don't overcommit at 8. Find 2-star core units (e.g., 2-star Sejuani, 2-star Azir, etc.), then save for level 9. At 9, use Force of Nature items (increases population cap) and mental mechanics to chase 3-star 4-costs like Sejuani or Kai'Sa. Once you reach a 3-star 4-cost, you're basically unstoppable.
When behind: Secure a top 4 finish—Economic Thresholds: If your HP is below 50 and your economy is tight, your goal is a top 4 finish. The thresholds are as follows: If your HP is below 50, you must roll heavily at 4-1 to stabilize your HP, even if it means spending all your gold. If your HP is below 30, give up on leveling to 9, and once you hit 8, roll for 2-star core units to secure your placement. On the economic side, prioritize profit, but I want to roll. For example, if you've hit 2-star Azir and 2-star Sejuani at level 8, you're stabilized even without 3-stars and can secure a top 4 finish.
Economy management tips:
- Use natural spirit mechanics. Buy souls with XP or gold each round to accelerate your economy.
- When ahead, win-streak gold + interest + souls make your economy snowball, enabling fast leveling.
- When behind, don't blindly hoard gold. HP is more important than economy. Roll when needed. Only after stabilizing can you turn the game around.
In summary, the core of a level 9 comp is flexibility. Adjust your strategy based on HP and economy. When ahead, apply pressure. When behind, play for placement. Once you master the tempo, you can easily climb in Set 18 "Natural Force."
