Aegis Warrior Guide: Join Early and Win in Detail

Once the Aegis Warrior comp is complete, Kalista is locked in as the core carry and Poppy as the tank. Prioritize attack speed items, use shields to counter snipers, and adapt to Kayle or Conqueror for flexibility.

1. Final Traits and Unit Setup

The core strategy of the Aegis Warrior composition in this set is theAegis Warriortrait as the backbone, then supplemented withConquerororAssassinfor damage. The final traits are usually:6 Aegis Warrior + 2 Conqueror + 2 Assassin(if you get an Aegis Spatula, you can make 8 Aegis.)

Main Carry:Kalista (3-cost). She has an excellent base attack speed, and combined with the Aegis Warrior attack speed bonus, her unique 'Rend' mechanic allows her to deal explosive damage quickly. Recommended items: Guinsoo's Rageblade, Runaan's Hurricane, Quicksilver (or Hand of Justice).

Main Tank:Poppy (she costs 1, but this set has a dedicated enhancement, 'Shield Bash'). Her ability provides a shield, and the Aegis Warrior trait adds an additional shield, making her the strongest unit early on. Recommended items: Warmog's Armor, Thornmail, Dragon's Claw (or Gargoyle Stoneplate).

Secondary Carry:Yasuo (2-cost). His ability provides crowd control and triggers the Conqueror trait's attack speed bonus, dealing consistent damage during the game. Recommended items: Infinity Edge, Last Whisper, Guardian Angel (or Hand of Justice).

Flexible Units:Without an Aegis Spatula, the usual 6 Aegis Warriors are Poppy, Leona, Jarvan IV, Rell, Kayle, and Kled. Kayle (4-cost) can be replaced if Kalista is the main carry. Kled (1-cost) is good for early transitions and can later be replaced by Shaco if you go the Assassin route.

2. Key Item Distribution and Priority

Kalista's Core Items:Guinsoo's Rageblade (Recurve Bow + Needlessly Large Rod), Runaan's Hurricane (Recurve Bow + Negatron Cloak), Quicksilver (Sparring Gloves + Negatron Cloak). If the enemy has little CC, replace Quicksilver with Hand of Justice or Giant Slayer. Kalista needs attack speed to stack 'Rend', so prioritize Guinsoo and Runaan.

Poppy's Tank Items:Warmog's Armor for high HP (Giant's Belt + Giant's Belt), Thornmail to reflect damage (Chain Vest + Chain Vest), Dragon's Claw for magic resistance (Negatron Cloak + Negatron Cloak). If the enemy has heavy physical damage, swap in Frozen Heart or Thornmail. Poppy is the core of the frontline, and her items are second in importance only to the main carry's.

Utility Items (Ionic Spark/Armor Shred):Ionic Spark (Needlessly Large Rod + Negatron Cloak) is usually given to Leona or Rell. Their abilities cover a wide area and can trigger Ionic Spark to reduce enemy magic resistance, which synergizes well with Kalista's magic damage (Rend deals magic damage). Last Whisper (Sparring Gloves + Recurve Bow) goes to Yasuo or Kalista. If the enemy fr

ontline has high armor, prioritize armor shred.

Item Priority:First build Kalista's Guinsoo and Runaan, then Poppy's Warmog and Thornmail, then Yasuo's Last Whisper or Infinity Edge, and finally consider Ionic Spark. Do not sacrifice too much HP for items. In the mid game, maintaining stable HP is more important.

3. Recommended Augments/Hexcores

Honor of Kings guide image

Combat (Best):

  • Aegis Warrior Emblem: Adds an Aegis Warrior unit, allowing you to reach 6 or 8 Aegis faster. This is a huge power spike.
  • Attack Speed Boost(e.g., 'Rapid Fire' or 'Attack Speed Ricochet'): Increases the attack speed of all units, perfectly synergizing with Aegis Warrior and Kalista.
  • Shield Bash(Poppy's enhancement): Combines tankiness and damage, making Poppy's shield deal damage.

Economy (Recommended):

  • Rich Get Richer: Provides extra gold to speed up your economy so you can find Kalista and Yasuo faster.
  • D-Roll: Gives a free shop reroll every round, great for chasing 3-star Poppy or Kalista.
  • Clear Mind(if you are on an early win streak): Gain experience faster so you can level up sooner.

Spatula (Flexibility):

  • Aegis Spatula: Grants the Aegis trait to any unit, allowing you to replace non-Aegis units and slots with stronger 5-cost units.
  • Conqueror Spatula
If you use Yasuo as a secondary carry, Kalista can also benefit from Conqueror's attack speed.

4. Positioning Guide

Honor of Kings guide image

Basic Positioning:Place Poppy in the front center and Leona and Rell on both sides to form a 'V' shape and draw enemy fire. Kalista is in the back corner (watch out for assassins), and Yasuo is beside the second row so he can easily reach the fight.

Anti-Assassin Details:If the enemy has an assassin, place Kalista in the opposite corner and put a low-priority unit like Kled next to her as a 'bodyguard' to absorb the jump. Alternatively, you can place Kalista in the center of the third row with frontline units on both sides to prevent a direct jump.

Anti-AOE (e.g., mages):Poppy stays in front while Leona and Rell are spread out to avoid core hits. Kalista stays far from the center of enemy abilities.

Against Marksmen:Place Poppy and Rell on the same side as the enemy marksman to absorb damage with shields while Kalista quickly takes them down.

5. Matchups and Adaptation

Honor of Kings guide image

Strong Against:Aegis warriors counter marksmen and mages because their shields absorb burst damage and their high attack speed quickly clears the frontline.

Weaknesses:Burst assassins who can jump past the backline (such as Kha'Zix or Zed) and anti-shield grievous wounds (such as Morellonomicon).

Adaptation:

  • If Kalista doesn't come, switch to Kayle as the main carry, keeping the same item traits such as Guinsoo's, Runaan's, and Guardian Angel.
  • If you get a lot of Poppies early, go for a reroll strategy and aim for 3-star Poppy.
  • If Aegis units are strong but Kalista is lacking, make 6 Aegis + 4 Conqueror (with Kayle or Draven) and use Yasuo or Kayle as the main carry.
  • If you have no Aegis units at all, use 6 Conqueror with Draven or Yasuo as the carry.

Remember that flexibility is key to winning in the lobby. Don't force a single comp.
